The Owls bid farewell to our 1st Team Captain Billy Bridge who was recruited to play for top Spanish team Mideba Extremadura for the 20/21 season.

Billy has been a pivotal part of The Owls 1st team since rejoining the club in 2016; winning the league in his first season back and helping the Owls secure a place in the top European Cup competition. As well as club success, Billy became Junior World Champion with Great Britain in 2017 alongside his then Owls team mates Gregg Warburton, Jack Perry and Owls Coach Pete Finbow.

Owls Head Coach Dan Johnson had this to say:

“ Obviously we are sad to lose such a talented player as Billy as he has been  an influential figure both on and off the court for a number of seasons. However we recognise that moving to Mideba is a wonderful opportunity for Billy allowing him to play in arguably the strongest league in the world alongside a number of fellow GB internationals including GB captain Phil Pratt. Therefore he leaves with our best wishes. Once an Owls player always an Owl so we look forward to welcoming him back in the future  when no doubt the club will benefit from his  knowledge and experience “

In an interview with wheelchair basketball magazine Rollt. Billy had some kind words to say about his time with The Owls:

“I have a lot to thank Oldham for, Dan Johnson and Gary Peel have helped me in tremendous ways, not only as a player but a person, leader and teammate. They have helped me understand and read the game a lot better, they taught me the patience and discipline…”

The Club wishes Billy the best of luck in Spain and as Head Coach Dan Johnson says, “Once an Owl always an Owl”.
